New Year Greeting. As friends exchange the Season’s greetings with their loved ones far away, accept an old friend’s hearty wishes for a joyous New Year’s day. Series 346.
Post marked Jackson, Mich. Dec 31, 1913 and then Detroit, Mich. Jan 8, 1914. Addressed to Mr. Weaver of Diamond Lodge, Diamond Temple Cor Lawton and Gd River Ave. Detroit, Mich. {Written in pencil across the address: 92 Tireman]
“186 W. Main St, Jackson, Mich. Dear Friend and Bros. I hear that you are feeling much better and hoping that continues though out the New Year. Come and see me when you can. You and wife. We have a spare room and the latch key is always out to a friend. Yours in F.L.T, H.B. Storey.”
Even though the card was forwarded to Grandpa Lee’s address, it was meant for his father, Great Grandpa Weaver, Lemuel who lived at 94 Tireman. The addressing that was able to get the mail through in 1913/1914 is quite interesting in the early 21st century when a misplaced digit on a Zip+4 gets the mail returned.
