2016-2017
I inherited a rather large box of post cards that my maternal grandfather had collected over the years 1907 – 1934. I knew I wanted to do something with them, but could not decide what to do to preserve them and share them with my family. I then came upon the idea of creating this blog where I would post one post card every day until I have the entire collection posted. Then I realized it was a lot more than just the history conveyed by the pictures. The addresses used for my grandfather gave a trail of where he and his parents lived and when they lived there. And the notes!! The notes give a rare glimpse into a man I idolized and, I am finding out, was a lot more complex than I knew. Be sure to stick around for the Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines, and Easter cards — this was a major form of communication in the years before everyone had a telephone.
2018-2020
I extracted family stories from my research and published these.
2021
I published pictures of family heirlooms and the stories behind each one. After all, without the stories they are just things.
2022-xxxx
As I run into things as I research I provide updates and insights as to what I am currently working to complete – complete is a very loose word.
