Rogers Hornsby – out of the park, home run!

RogersHornby

Rogers Hornsby, as my sixth cousin, three times removed, looks to be on one of the best documented of my lines right up to our MRCA, my 8th great grandfather, Samuel Camp (1645-1763).  Rogers’ is also a clean lineage as well.  In fact, the first few generations in Rogers’ line, next to Grandfather Camp, are also documented in my evidence.   Looking good to have a famous baseball player / coach in the line up.   Just one question, “what is with the “s” at the end of his first name?”

George Armistead – miracle child?

GeorgeArmistead

George Armistead, 5th cousin, 5 times removed, showed up in We’re Related, and we might be, but I really do not trust the lineage provided for cousin George.   Maybe it would have been better to caption this entry “Child of Miracle Child” since George was born to his mother when she was 10 years old!    I cannot stress enough, We’re Related needs to #adjust_algorithms to catch this and not try to pass this off as “fact”.  With this kind of fuzzy logic, there is no way I will waste any time looking into any of this connection.

Henry Cavendish – 4th cousin, 8 times removed and full of hot air?

HenryCavendish

Henry Cavendish, discoverer of Hydrogen, was reported to be my 4th cousin, 8 times removed, through our MRCA, Temperance Bray (1580-1619).  This follows my Lee – Stevens line though to my last documented member on that line, my 9th great grandfather, John Stevens (1603-1670).  Then the We’re Related report gets questionable. It states John’s mother was born in 1583 when HER MOTHER was 3 YEARS OLD!   So, I will have to discount the validity of the report!  Am I the first person that looked at the dates and said, “I really do not buy this!”?

Julia Gardiner Tyler – wife of President John Tyler

JuliaTyler

OK, another First Lady shows up as a cousin — 7th, 4 times removed.   The lineage presented agrees with my documentation all the way back to my 9th great grandmother, Elizabeth Cleverly (1623-1681), one generation from our MRCA, Thomas Talmadge (1595-1653).  I have a problem with attributing Talmadge as the father of Cleverly (whose married name was Hotchkiss).  Unless Elizabeth was married prior to her marriage to my 9th great grandfather, it does not explain the name change.   TO DO item to research!

Bing Crosby – White Christmas ?

BingCrosby

Cousin Harry (aka Bing) might be a bit more than 7 times removed or not.   I looked at the lineage for my ancestors that was provided.  I can document back to my 5th great grandmother, Thankful Isham (1752-1834), but it requires 5 more generations to leap back to our MRCA, Abigail Howland (1629-1692).  That’s a lot of research just to be able to watch Holiday Inn and say – “Oh ya, that’s cousin Bing with George Clooney’s aunt. ”   But, to take from Grandma Isham’s name, I am thankful to have a clue as to next steps in the lineage trail.   There are two generations of Fuller and two of Young before I get to Grandmother Howland.

Pretty Boy Floyd – gangster cousin?

PrettyBoyFloyd

I have to admit it would be kind of fun to claim Pretty Boy Floyd as my 7th cousin, 4 times removed.  As it is, I can only verify up to my 5th great grandmother, Desire [love that name] Hitchcock (1750-1769) and there are 5 more generations to our MRCA, Stephen Terry (1608-1668).  Unfortunately, We’re Related has provided Thomas Terry in my line with a birth year of 1665 and Thomas Terry, his uncle, in Pretty Boy’s line also with a 1665 birth year.   Lineages reported with this kind of matching always raise questions.  It is going to require a bit of research before I will get back to watching the Edward G Robinson / Jimmy Cagney gangster flicks for insights into my possible cousin’s endeavors.

Barbara Ann Scott, a good skate, eh?

BarbaraAnnScott

Barbara Ann and I have to go all the way back to my 7th great grandmother, Abigail Stevens (1666-1727), to encounter our MRCA.  But, I do have documentation back to Grandmother Abigail Stevens Lee.  If Barbara’s line is clean, and that will require some checking to be sure, it might imply that one of my Lee ancestors was a Loyalist and hopped over the border into Canada.   This same Lee line resulted in a number of Patriot members.  This could be interesting enough to check into!

President William Howard Taft – 6C4R

WilliamHowardTaft

President and Chief Justice Taft appears to actually be my sixth cousin, 4 times removed through our MRCA, my 9th great grandfather, William Holbrook (1620-1699).  The Taft line up to Grandfather Holbrook goes through the well documented Torrey and Holbrook famlies.  So, We’re Related, that is one that we can put in the WIN column!

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. – jury is out.

OliverWendellHolmesJr

The famed jurist, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., is reported to be my 6th cousin, 6 times removed.   I can follow the lineage reported for me through my 5th great grandmother (love the name), Thankful Isham (1752-1834).  But, it requires 6 additional generations to get to our reported MRCA, Hannah Howse (1594-1634).   That is going to be a lot of hours!  And would a Supreme Court argument accept less preparation?    Another TO DO item!

Ellen Louise [Axson] Wilson – First Lady of the U. S.

EllenLouiseWilson

Mrs. Wilson, not the famous Mrs. Wilson who reportedly ran the country when her husband, President Woodrow Wilson, became ill late in his term, was only in the White House a short time.   As my 6th cousin, 3 times removed, we share a MRCA, Hannah Chapin (1644-1719), two generations beyond where my documentation supports.  I cover through my 6th great grandfather, Moses Hitchcock (1717-1768).  I will use the We’re Related next two entries as clues in my search for added generations.  But, I will need to find evidence that they are the correct entries before I put them in MY database.
