“A Merry Christmas, and may you see many of them.  From Effie [Effie Lee Weaver] and Lee [Lee G. Weaver]”

This card was to Great Grandfather Lemuel Weaver from Great Grandmother Effie Lee Weaver and Grandpa Lee.  There is no date on the card but the postage requirement is a clue that it was pre-1917:  One cent stamp for United States, Canada, and Mexico.  Two cent stamp for all other countries.

A Merry Christmas to You.  Printed in Germany [Glossy Picture].

“Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year is the wish of Sister Christeen [Christiana Weaver Rhinehart].”

This card probably predates Aunt Teen’s marriage to Uncle Charlie Shwartz since it was printed in Germany and the postage requirement states:  Domestic, Cuba, Canal Zone, Hawaii, Mexico, Philippines, Puerto Rico  One Cent, Foreign Two Cents.  Aunt Teen was Great Grandfather Lemuel Weaver’s sister and Great Grandmother Effie Lee Weaver’s sister-in-law.

In the collection it is quite unusual since the picture is glossy.   All of the others are matte.

Aunt Teen, Great Grandfather Lemuel Weaver’s sister, kept her holiday greeting to Grandpa Lee short and sweet.  Not sure of the year.

“This is the wish of your Sister Christeen [Christiana Weaver Rinehart]. Hope you are well.”

No idea of when this was sent or whether it was meant for Great Grandfather Lemuel Weaver, Aunt Teen’s brother, or Great Grandmother Effie Lee Weaver, Aunt Teen’s sister-in-law.

“Dear Nephew, I hope you will have a Merry Xmas and a happy new year and don’t be fickle minded about the girls.  Aunt Rose [Roseanah Weaver Fisher]”

I have no idea when Aunt Rose sent this to Grandpa Lee, but there was more than just a Christmas message here!   Aunt Rose was Great Grandfather Lemuel Weaver’s sister and she lived in Columbus, Ohio.   The Weaver and Koontz families were close friends.   Possibly Grandpa Lee was giving Grandma Florence the business and Aunt Rose was reprimanding him?

The postage requirement on the card is the only clue as to the dating of it:  1 cent to United States, Canada or Mexico.  2 cents to all other Countries.  This would indicate it was before 1916.

Christmas wishes to Grandma Florence from Great Grandfather Lemuel Weaver’s sister, Aunt Teen and Uncle Charlie.

Post marked Corning, Ohio.  Dec 24, 1920 11 PM.  Addressed to Mr & Mrs Lee Weaver, 92 Tireman Ave., Detroit, Mich.

“Corning, O  Dec 24 -20  Dear Cousins, Just a line to let you’s know that we still think of you yours.  Ellora Weaver”

Ellora was the daughter of Charles Louis Weaver, Great Grandfather Lemuel Weaver’s brother.   Ellora was a frequent visitor to the home of Lemuel and Effie as she made her way to Mt. Clemens to seek relief from arthritis.

Post marked Detroit, Mich.  Dec. 20, 1918.  Addressed to Private Lee G Weaver, Quartermaster Office, Fort Terry, New York.  [the address was crossed out and 91 Tireman, Detroit, Mich. was written]

“Trust you are enjoying good health and trust you will be home for Xmas.  Many of the soldiers are attending the church this Sabbath.  500 at Ford Hospital.  Wishing you a Merry Happy Xmas.    A. V. Vondermels”

A Chirstmas card from a friend to Grandpa Lee  while Grandpa was serving in World War I — It appears he was home for Christmas since the card was forwarded there.

I’ve been thinking very hard what to write upon this card, I’m weary of the same old rhyme one always sees at Christmas time; You’ll know I love you just the same, if I simply sign my name.    Whitney Made.  Worcester, Mass.

“Dear Lella M Weaver [Leila Marie Weaver].  We are so disappointed by not seeing you.  If you don’t need any close [sic.] or anything put this one D. in the Bank.  It would not buy very much anyway.   I am feeling some better today,   I have not been able to see Aunt Rose [Roseanah Weaver Fisher] for 4 weeks, she is not well at all.  Good by.  Be a good girl.”

Leila was born in 1919, so this card is probably from that year or 1920 at the latest.  Aunt Rose recovered and lived until 1931.   Leila was the daughter of Lee G and Florence Koontz Weaver.   Even though the front of the card said “You’ll know I love you just the same, if I simply sign my name. ”  the sender did not.   I suspect it was from Aunt Teen [Christiana Weaver Rinehart Schwartz]
