Clara Barton – cousin and Red Cross Founder!

ClaraBarton

Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, as my 6th cousin, 4 times removed is an interesting development.  The lineage provided for my line in the pedigree chart is in agreement with what I have documented all the way to our MRCA, William Ballard (1603-1689), my 9 times great grandfather.  There are not PRIVATE placeholders in Clara’s lineage presented!  The only question mark arises with her grandfather, David Stone (1750-1827) being the son of David Haven (1731-1800).  Children usually have the same surname as their father.   I need to look into why this change in name occurred before I make Cousin Clara a definite.  I am seeing too many instances where We’re Related is reporting non-genealogical relationships as if they really were the actual biological relationship (i.e. calling a foster parent the actual genealogical parent of a child and then assigning the lineage upward).  But, investigation will tell one way or the other.

About Pat Shaul

Genealogist / Family Historian; Blog started as a record of my Grandfather's post card collection which ran for 15 months. Then, in June, 2017, I changed over to reporting and commenting on notifications from the ANCESTRY app "We're Related" I then started to provide snippets into ancestor biographies on the dates that were significant anniversaries.
