Katie Holmes – but I won’t be jumping on Oprah’s couch any time soon!

KatieHolmes

So, We’re Related, Katie Holmes is my 6th cousin, 5 times removed?  Maybe you need to check the lineage you defined for her in notice # 395.  You have her 6 times great grandmother, Ann Caudill (1731-1836) being the daughter of Elizabeth Casebolt (1809-1857)!  Now, even with weird math, you cannot be born 78 years BEFORE your mother!  Of course, this is better (?) than report # 84 where again, Katie is my 6th cousin, 5 times removed, but, her father appears to be Jacob Davison (1798-1868).   WHERE ARE THE REALITY EDITS?

Donny and Marie –

MarieOsmondDonnieOsmond

It took three days between, but We’re Related figured out for the first time that if I was a 9th cousin of Marie, I must also be a 9th cousin of Donny.  The reports also use the same MRCA, Thomas Deane (1639-1697), the proposed father of my 7 times great grandmother, Lydia Dean (1679-1726) and the furthest documented ancestor I have in that lineage.   I have been looking for evidence of Grandmother Lydia’s parents for a while since there are a number of reports that claim Thomas as her father, but everywhere I have sought they just claim it without citation!   Time for a number of persons to take a class from Elizabeth Shown Mills!

This report was grouped as # 394 since the both siblings were so closely reported.   But, a number of months ago, in report # 85, Marie was reported as my 9th cousin thought MRCA, John Hitchcock (1642-1712), the proposed grandfather of my 6 times great grandfather, Moses Hitchcock (1717-1768) who is the furthest documented ancestor I have in that lineage.  Both connections come through the Osmond paternal line, splitting off at their great grandparents, Tyesha Ann Beeler (1843-1929) #394 and Isaac Hawk Vail (1831-1871) # 85.

So, if I can authenticate either, maybe I can score some comp tickets on my next trip to Vegas?

George Washington Carver – by adoption!

GeorgeWashingtonCarver

George Washington Carver was reported as my 7th cousin, 3 times removed.  Apparently, there was no need to check his biography to ascertain that the person defined as his mother, Susan Blue (1814-1882), was the woman who adopted him after his biological mother had died.  This was not a “Rocket Science” research project, it was pull up his biography on wikipedia and the story of his being stolen in infancy, his parents being killed, and his adoption is very up front.

Sam Walton – can I get a piece of the estate???

SamWalton

Sam Walton as my 7th cousin, once removed, through our MRCA, Abigail Bellows (1661-1726), my 7 times great grandmother.  Forget the discount, I want a piece of Cousin Sam’s estate and free access to the royalties on the People of Walmart Pictures!  If the lineage for Sam is correct from We’re Related, then we really are related since I have documentation confirming my lineage to Grandmother Abigail.

Pearl S. Buck – should have gotten extra credit in HS!

PearlBuck

If I had known Ms Buck was my 7th cousin, 3 times removed, in High School, when I had to read The Good Earth, I am sure I would have milked it for extra credit!  We are supposed to be related through our MRCA, Christian Gerber (1592-1650), the 5 times great grandfather of my 2 times great grandmother, Mary Ann Allen (1836-xxx), the furthest documented ancestor I have in the Allen Lineage.  (I have some work to do, that is really not very far back compared to the rest of my tree!!!  And, I have not found Grandmother Mary Ann’s death record either!).  I could have asked for double extra credit for knowing what the S stood for: Sydenstriker, Pearl’s maiden name!

Dale Earnhardt – not the first really fast relative …

DaleEarnhardt

So, We’re Related thinks Dale Earnhardt is my 9th cousin!  We link up through our MRCA, Jacobus Schaeffer (1657-1714), the great great grandfather of John Backus (1750-1823), the furthest documented ancestor I have in that lineage and my 4 times great grandfather.  The impressive entry in the proposed lineage between John and Jacobus is Jacobus’ son, Johann Georg Schaeffer (1691-1733) who apparently fathered a daughter, Catherina Scheffer (1700-1732) at AGE 9!  Whoever set up this lineage just slammed names and ignored that the life span of the person meant they were not a fit.

James Madison – second go —

JamesMadison

In notice # 389, We’re Related, has notified that President James Madison was my 6th cousin, six times removed, through our MRCA, John Hall (1540-1630), the proposed great grandfather of Samuel Hall (1644-1689), my 8 times great grandfather and the furthest documented ancestor that I have in that particular lineage.  President Madison’s lineage is traced through his mother, Eleanor Rose Conway (1731-1829).   A number of months ago, in notice # 76, We’re Related informed me that President Madison and I were 8th cousins, twice removed, through our MRCA, John Strong (1605-1699).   This one also goes through the President’s mother’s lineage, but they name her as Eleanor Rose Catlett (1731-1829) – dates are the same.  But, the line jumps around and one generation has Benjamin Phelps (1717-1761) as the father of Margaret Mason (1610-1665).  Now fathering a child over 100 years BEFORE you are born is some feat!  The jumble of the tree that We’re Related picked up in # 76 would explain how they think President Madison and I are only separated by 2 Generations.   Needless to say, # 76 is totally BOGUS and # 389 shows some promise.

Matthew McConaughey – ‘Alright, Alright, Alright’

MatthewMcConaughey

The latest notice (#388) tells me that Matthew McConaughey is my 9th cousin through our MRCA, Thomas Deane (1639-1697), the proposed father of my 7 times great grandmother Lydia Dean (1679-1726), the furthest documented ancestor I have in this lineage.  We’re Related reports that Grandmother Lydia had a sister, Hannah Dean (1673-xxxx) who is the connector to the lineage of Matthew.   So, TO DO:  Did Lydia have a sister, Hannah?  Was the father of Lydia Thomas Deane?  Alright, Alright, Alright. I will add it to the list!

William Blake – romantic poet not accepted in his own time — must be a cousin!

WilliamBlake

William Blake is reported to be my 5th cousin, six time removed, through MRCA William Lane (1580-1654), the proposed grandfather of Hannah Baker (1638-1717), my 8 times great grandmother and the furthest documented ancestor I have in that lineage.  So, added to the TO DO list from yesterday, I need two more generations to prove out in Jolly Old England.   I had better start saving for a long research trip!

Sir Francis Bacon – what’s not to like about a BACON?

FrancisBacon

OK, now we jump from my 9 times great grandfather,  George Lewis (1600-1664), to his proposed great grandfather and the MRCA with Sir Francis, Nicholas Bacon (1509-1579).  This results in Sir Francis being my first cousin, 12 times removed.  Diggig through 16th century English records seems like a task I need to pawn off on Nathan Dylan Goodwin #NathanDylanGoodwin, after all, I have read all of his books and buy the next one as soon as it is published.  Seems fair?
