Union Bank, Pittsburgh – 1919

UnionBank1919

Union Bank Building, Pittsburgh, PA.  A-23466. Published by I. Robbins & Son, Pittsbutgh, PA.  Made in U.S. A.

Post marked Pittsburgh, PA.  Jul 18, 1919.  Addressed to Mrs. L. G. [Lee G / Florence Koontz] Weaver, 92 Tireman Ave., Detroit, Mich.

“7-18-19   Well sis.  afar a little stay at home I think I’ll come to see you .  If Ethel hasn’t gone away yet, she may come with me.  Home Sunday.  Bill [William P Koontz]”

Uncle Bill was Grandma Florence’s younger brother.   In 1919, he has just returned from WW I.   I cannot be sure which Ethel he was referring to in his note — there is Ethel Koontz Griste, Bill’s  and Florence’s sister and then there is Ethel Chidester, Uncle Bill’s future wife – they were married in 1921.  There should be a rule that you cannot marry someone with the same first name as your sibling!

Gateway, Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus – 1919

GatewayGreenlawn1919

Gateway, Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.  21504N.  Pub. by W. S. Harriman, Columbus, Ohio.

Post marked Columbus, Ohio. Aug 9, 1919.  Addressed to Mr. Lee Weaver, 92 Tireman Ave., Detroit, Mich.

“I’ll send the name and address of that that [sic.] fellow last of next week or first of next or you send me that paper and I’ll send it to him.  Herm.      I got my keys.”

Timing in the note does not make a lot of sense – last of next or first of next, but that is what Herm wrote.    The only Herman I find in the family is Uncle Bill’s  [William P. Koontz] brother in law, Herman Chidester, in Columbus at the time.

Sunshine or Rain in Columbus … 1920

Columbus1920

Sunshine or rain in Columbus, I love you the same.

Post marked Columbus, Ohio.  Jul 25, 1920.  Addressed to Mrs. L. G. [Lee G / Florence Koontz], 92 Tireman Av, Detroit, Mich.

“Received your card and hope you got home all OK.  Was up with circus day but did not see the parade.  I am all rite.  Felt bad about 3 days but rode the goat just the same.  It was just fine.  Love, Mother. [Phebie Ann Gardner Koontz]”

Other than having a post card written by my great grandmother, this probably had meaning between her and Grandma, but I have not got a clue.
