A Happy New Year.

Post mark is unreadable.  Addressed to Mr. Lemuel Weaver, Detroit, 94 Tireman Ave., Mich.

“Dear Uncle, I hope you are able to be out by this time and well get along all right.  Your Niece, Ellora [Weaver]”

This is probably from the 1913-14 time frame when Great Grandpa Weaver was ill and everyone was concerned.   Ellora, a frequent correspondent and also a visitor to the Weaver home on Tireman was the daughter of Lemuel’s brother, Charles Louis Weaver.

A Happy New Year – 1908

newyears1909

A Happy New Year. Raphael Tuck & Sons “New Years Post Cards” Series No. 139.  Art Publishers to Their Majesties the King & Queen.  Printed in Saxony.

Post marked Greenfield, Mich.  Dec. 31, 1908.  Addressed to Mrs. [Effie Lee] Weaver, 2nd house west of 54 Tireman Ave., Detroit, Mich.

“Dec 30, ’08    Dear Mrs. Weaver,  May the coming year be a happy and prosperous one for you is the wish of your friend.  Sara Waffle.”

The formality of 1908 versus the informality of 2016 — cannot imagine addressing a friend by a formal title instead of by first name.  Great card!  The mode of address is also very interesting…
