Another of the unused cards in Grandpa Lee’s collection. This one really looks like a view of Mullet Lake from Reg and Hazel Adams’ cottage — the long dock, the row boat, the birch trees. It was a quiet peaceful time.

Grandpa Lee [Weaver] was working at the Goodrich Rubber Co., in Akron in 1913. This would explain the post card of the company buildings and that he kept the card unused as part of his collection of post cards.

Another in the unused post card collection from the 1919 – 1951 era. The Ottawa has since been torn down. We used to see this hotel every time we went to Cheboygan — it was on the main corner of the crossing of the two main streets. My father would ALWAYS tell of the bar next to the Ottawa that his grandmother used to send him on a mission to fetch his grandfather. The bar had that great Northern Michigan name of The Bucket of Blood.

Another of Grandpa Lee’s unused post cards. Again, from the 1919-1951 time frame due to the postage requirement of 1¢. Grandpa Lee and Grandma Florence used to visit their friends’, Hazel and Reg Adams, who had a cottage on Mullet Lake near Cheboygan. Many times, the Adamses would loan out the cottage to the Weavers. There was no running water — a pump out in the front yard and one at the kitchen sink. The only requirement was the cottage be left as it was found — that meant the Out House was emptied. Grandpa was in charge and never seemed to mind. We always suspected this was his job as a boy. We joined them at the cottage on a number of occasions. Grandpa liked to go North near Labor Day to avoid the worst of Hay Fever in Detroit. It is also of note that my father was born in Cheboygan. It makes this a double interest post card.

Another in the series of Grandpa’s collection of unused post cards (it appears we will begin a batch of them today). Since the postage stamp instructions are to place a one cent stamp on the card, the card is from 1919 to 1951. The rate went up to 2¢ on January 1, 1952.

“Having a good time in a great country. Fishing not so good as yet. Plenty here but they’re not hungry. Henry [Allen Koontz, Lee’s bother-in-law].”
Uncle Heinie apparently went to the UP on a fishing trip in 1937.

“3-5-19 This is were [sic.] we tie up when at St. Nazaire. We are just about where these barges are. Also being in a canal. Bill [William P. Koontz, Florence’s brother].”
Uncle Bill was in France during World War I and also just after. He had a degree in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University.
