Detroit Boat Club – 1910

Detroit Boat Club, Belle Isle, Detroit, Mich.

Boat Club, Belle Isle.   The Detroit Boat Club is one of the most exclusive social and athletic organizations in Detroit.  Its handsome home on Belle Isle near the bridge was erected in 1902 to replace one destroyed by fire. The building is one of the finest of its kind in the world.  Its members enjoy unusual facilities for their favorite sports of rowing which they combine with sailing and canoeing.  Their balls feature the summer in Detroit society.  In front of the bridge entrance to the  club is one of the finest flower beds on the island.

Post marked Oct 20, 1910.  Redford, Mich.  Addressed to Mrs. Effie L[ee] Weaver, 94 Tireman Ave., Detroit, Michigan.

“Redford, Mich.  Oct. 19, 1910.   Aunt Effie,  They are coming here Sunday instead of Monday which is the 24th.   Tell Uncle Lem [Lemuel Weaver, her husband] and Lee [Lee G. Weaver, her son] they better come.  If you will let us know what time you will come we will meet you. Estelle [Wright]”

Not sure who the THEY are.  Estelle seems to take on her formal name when doing the social planning instead of the use of Stella when she is being more casual.

About Pat Shaul

Genealogist / Family Historian; Blog started as a record of my Grandfather's post card collection which ran for 15 months. Then, in June, 2017, I changed over to reporting and commenting on notifications from the ANCESTRY app "We're Related" I then started to provide snippets into ancestor biographies on the dates that were significant anniversaries.
