Alfred Hitchcock — 7C3R

AlfredHitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock is reported in # 369 as my 7th cousin, 3 times removed,  through our MRCA, Cicely Penny (1601-1683), the great grandmother of Moses Hitchcock (1717-1768), my 6th great grandfather and the furthest documented ancestor I have in that particular lineage.  Now, when I look at the connected lineages of cousin Alfred and myself, I see that Grandmother Cicely had two daughters : Hannah Chapin (1644-1719) and they each had a son, Nathaniel Hitchcock (1677-1761).  Coincidence?  I think not.  Failure to notice the trees are identical?  I think so.  It appears the MRCA is really Nathaniel Hitchcock, the father of Moses.   So, now I have a doable TO DO item!  And I do not need to fear Vertigo or the Birds!

Abigail (Powers) Fillmore, FLOTUS

AbigailFillmore

In notification # 368. We’re Related tells me that Abigail Powers Fillmore, wife of President Millard Fillmore, is my 4th cousin, 6 times removed through our MRCA, Abigail Harvey (1665-1734), the grandmother of Abigail Crossman (1690-1767), my 7 times great grandmother and the furthest documented ancestor I have in that particular lineage.    Earlier, in notification # 151, I was told cousin Abigail was my 5th cousin, 6 times removed through our MRCA Robert Fletcher (1592-1677), the father of John Fletcher (1606-1683), the furthest documented ancestor I have in that particular lineage.  For Mrs. Fillmore, the two lineages cross at her parents, #368 is her mother, Abigail Newland (1758-1850) and # 151 is her father Lemuel Powers (1756-1800).  Using # 151, if I can document 1 more generation, I can claim another FLOTUS!!

Dr. Benjamin Spock – no, not the guy with the ears!

BenjaminSpock

In report # 367, We’re Related informed me that Dr. Benjamin Spock was my 8th cousin, twice removed, through our MRCA, Elder John White (1600-1713), the three times great grandfather of Esther Clark, my four times great grandmother and the furthest documented ancestor I have in that lineage.  Earlier, in report # 144, again as 8th cousin, twice removed, only this time through our MRCA, Elizabeth ______ Baker (1612-1666), the great grandmother of Dinah Harris (1702-1796), my 6th great grandmother and furthest documented ancestor I have in that lineage. Both go through Dr. Spock’s mother, Mildred Louise Stroughton (1876-1968) and join at Dr. Spock’s maternal grandparents: #367 – Charles Bradley Stroughton 1841-1898) and #144 – Ada Ripley Hooper (1847-1917).  From my generation, I am not sure for which Dr. Spock is most famous, his baby book that all our mothers used to toilet train us or his anti-war protests during the Vietnam war in the 1960s.  The former, I still blame my attention to detail upon.

George Washington – my leaf shook, too!

GeorgeWashington

President George Washington was in report # 366 as my 6th cousin, 7 times removed through our MRCA, Johun Waters (1524-1556), the grandfather of Henry Peck (1649-1732), my 9th great grandfather and the furthest documented ancestor I have in that line.   The lineage for cousin George goes through his father, Augustine.  But, this is the second report I have had of President Washington.  In report # 29, he was reported to be my 3rd cousin, 9 times removed, through our MRCA, William Ball (1573-1647), the great great grandfather of Lois Pond (1690-1730), my 7th great grandmother and the furthest ancestor documented in that lineage.  This match goes through, Mary Ball, George’s mother.  I guess the worst part is that it means I must be a cousin to that woman on the Ancestry commercials as well …..

Jacob Grimm – really scary! and not a fairy tale!

JacobGrimm

Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm as my 7th cousin, 4 times removed, is possible only if his lineage can be believed with his two times grandfather being born when his three times great grandfather was only 14!  I know they started younger back in the 17th century, but at 14?  To get the the suggested MRCA, Hans Kiese (1583-1628), the 4 times great grandfather of Magdalena Dockstader, my 4 times great grandmother and the furthest documented ancestor I have in that lineage, I have a great deal of research in Germany to complete.  This was for notice # 365.  In notice #231, Related wanted me to believe that my 8th great grandfather, Hans Jerg Hermann (1672-1714) fathered Anna MArie Hermann (1674-1735) at AGE 2!  Either notice does not take into account normal ages for procreation and just accepts whatever uncontrolled, undocumented names and dates someone throws out there.

President James Garfield – take 2.

JamesGarfield

We’re Related decided to re-notify me that James A Garfield was my 7th cousin 4 times removed — previous notification had him as 6th cousin, 4 times removed.  Apparently, there was a correction to the lineage projections made and one generation was added to both of us.  In the previous notice, William Holbrook (1620-1699) was our MRCA.  He is my 9th great grandfather and the furthest documented ancestor in that lineage.  Eunice Holbrook (1658-1699) was reported as his daughter.  In the most recent reporting, Grandfather William is Eunice’s uncle and our MRCA is now Thomas Holbrook (1599-1677), the father of William and his brother John (1617-1699).  I think someone guessed at Eunice being William’s daughter back a number of months ago and in the intervening time someone else has moved her from William to John.  Interesting take on the fluidity in the Ancestry world!

George Clinton – 5C7R

GeorgeClintonGeorge Clinton, the first person reported by We’re Related that I had to look up because I had no idea who the heck he was, showed up in a second reporting, # 364, as my 5th cousin, 7 times removed, through our MRCA, Margaret Campbell (1560-xxxx), the grandmother of James Pringle (1602-1634), my 9th great grandfather and the furthest documented ancestor I have in that lineage.  Now the claim is that Granny Margaret had two daughters, 30 years apart, my lineage at age 8!, George’s at age 38.  George’s is much more believable.  In the earlier notification, # 65, we walk the same line, but call out Margaret’s husband as the MRCA, William Cunningham (1532-1580).   William’s dates seem more reasonable.  Possibly, whoever typed in the tree that Ancestry pick these fruits from, missed a key stroke for Margaret’s birth year.

Oh, in case you were wondering, George Clinton was the Vice President of the United States under Thomas Jefferson and again under James Madison.

Ashton Kutcher – also related to George Lucas?

AshtonKutcher

We’re Related report # 363 gives Ashton Kutcher as my 9th cousin through our MRCA, Anna Bauman (1635-1686).  Anna is the great great grandmother of Magdalena Dockstader though her grandmother, Anna Elizabeth Meyer, my MRCA with George Lucas (see yesterday’s post).  So, exactly how many steps of separation does this qualify?

George Lucas – light sabers on!

GeorgeLucas

George Lucas was reported as my 8th cousin, once removed in # 362 through our MRCA, Valentin Ahl (1645-1700) – this is way deep in German research — 4 generations beyond my furthest documented ancestor, Magdalena Dockstader.   In report # 5 he is my 7th cousin, twice removed, through our MRCA  Anna Elizabeth Meyer (1680-1740), the grandmother of the same Magdalena Dockstader.  The difference is that #362 goes through her mother’s lineage, # 5 goes through her father’s lineage.   For George, #362 goes through his mother, Dorothy Ellinore Bomberger; #5 goes through his father, George Walton Lucas, Sr.  If I track, I will start with # 5.

President John Adams – 3 time hit!

JohnAdams

I received my THIRD notification from We’re Related that President John Adams was my cousin – #361, # 349, and #3.  In addition, his son, President John Quincy Adams appeared in # 292 which called out a lineage through his father.  In #361, John is my second cousin, eight times removed through our MRCA, John Bass (1630-1716), the 3 times great grandfather of my 4 times great grandmother, Esther Clark, the furthest documented ancestor in that line.   In # 346, John is my 6th cousin, 7 times removed, through our MRCA, John White (1550-1618), the 5th great grandfather of Thankful Isham (1752-1834), the furthest documented ancestor I have in that line.  The two meet at John’s parents: # 361: his father John Adams (1691-1761); # 349: his mother, Susanna Boylston (1708-1797).  John Quincy Adams was reported along the lineage that leads to John Bass.  In that lineage, his father, President John Adams, was given as PRIVATE!.   In # 3, John Adams is reported as my third cousin, 8 times removed, through our MRCA, Henry Adams (1583-1646), the four times great grandfather of the same Elizabeth Clark as in #361, but this lineage goes through her father and # 361 goes through her mother.  Spaghetti anyone?
