CONTENTMENT – Wash to smooth wrinkles.  A Daily portion of this essence use’t will smooth the brow and tranquility infuse.    Beauty Hint Series No. 47.  Copyright 1910 by Leota Woy, Denver, Colo.

Post marked Redford, Mich. Dec. 9, 1912.  Addressed to Mrs. Effie L[ee] Weaver, 94 Tireman Ave., Detroit, Mich.

“Effie, I think about the first fine day this week we will be in to do that little business we were speaking of.   I spoke to Willie [Lewellyn Lee, Effie’s brother] and he said he would go with us.  I don’t think it will be  Wed.  I hope it won’t be like this all the week week. Steve [Stephen A. D. Wright, husband of Marietta Lee Wright, Effie’s sister] went in with potatoes today. Esther [Esther Rebecca Wright, Ettie’s daughter, born in February, 1912] is better.  Ettie [Marietta Lee Wright, Effie’s sister].”

Looks like Aunt Ettie and Great Grandma Weaver were conspiring about something back in 1912.  Uncle Willie was in on it as well.

Office Rules – Don’t Hurry.  Our time is of no value, have a cigar. 544.

No post mark.  No address.

Another in the series of Grandpa Lee’s unused post cards of the Office Rules group!   These must date back to when he first started working after graduating from Cleary Business College.  In 1913, he was working in Akron, Ohio.

No post mark.  Addressed to Miss F. Oakman, 89 Tireman Ave, Detroit, Mich.

No stamp.  Never sent.  Only other words that appear are: Sorry. L.

Could this be the “other” Florence?  Seems to be a neighbor of the Weavers based on the address on Tireman.

uscapitalatnight

U. S. Capital at Night, Washington, D. C.  12089.  The United States Capital, set on a height overlooking the amphitheatre of the Potomac, is on of the largest and stateliest buildings in the world.  It is 751 feet in length and 350 feet in width, covering three and a half acres.  The statue of Freedom on the dome towers 307 feet above the esplanade.  The cornerstone was laid by President Washington in 1793; the central building was finished in 1797; and extensions were first occupied by Congress in 1857.    Published by B. S. Reynolds Co., Washington, D.C.

No post mark.  No address.

“Dear Grandma [Effie Lee Weaver], We are at Washington state camp.  We are leaving tomorrow or Sunday.  Love, Jame [Jmae Weaver]”

Although the post card was never sent, the message area was filled in by a very young Jmae (very youthful script writing and apparently, not fully sure how to spell her difficult name).  The 1 ¢ postage stamp was affixed.  This was probably written in the late 1920s or very early 1930s.

Another unused card from the Weaver 1937 trip to the West Coast.  Grandma and Grandpa would buy post cards of places they had seen since the photographs were better than what they could take themselves.
