Awaken Memories

awakenmemories

Awaken memories kind and true.  Of one who always thinks of you.   B142.

No post mark.  No address.

“Sister Weaver [Effie Lee Weaver],  Sister Harris is buried tomorrow at 2 P.M. from Redford a “Star Funeral” from the house.   Sister Sherwood

This was obviously a notice to Great grandma Weaver of an Eastern Star Funeral that was going to happen the next day.   Since it was not mailed, and the card was part of Grandpa Lee’s collection, I assume it was hand delivered.

View from Dufferin Terrace, Quebec – 1924

dufferin1924

View from Dufferin Terrace, Quebec, Canada.  A Valentine and Sons United Publishing Co. Limited Toronto and Winnipeg.   Printed in U.S.A.

Post marked Quebec, P.Q.  Aug 18, 1924.  Addressed to Mr. & Mrs. L[ee] G. Weaver, 4238 Tireman Ave, Detroit, Mich. U.S.A

“Friday     Just left Quebec this morning.  Its a fine trip & not to the end of it yet.  Bess”

Not sure who Bess was.  Their next door neighbor when the lived on Steel Ave (they moved there in 1929) was Bess Potes.  Anyway, the address reflects the house renumbering that went on in Detroit.  Grandma and Grandpa (and, at this time, both daughters, Leila and Jmae) were living at the same address as Lemuel and Effie.   The house was a duplex.   The elder Weavers occupied the lower level, the younger (Lee and his family) the upper level).

Interior of Great “Mormon” Tabernacle – 1937

MormonTabernacle1937

Interior of the Great “Mormon” Tabernacle, Salt Lake City, Utah.  599.  1A218.  Deseret Book Company, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Interior of “Mormon” Tabernacle.   The Tabernacle has a seating capacity of 8,000 people.  It was built to accommodate the great gatherings of the “Mormon” people at their annual and semi-annual conferences.  The acoustic properties are exceptionally fine, the ticking of an ordinary clock being distinctly audible in all parts.  One of the unique features of the building is the great organ.  It has been rebuilt and enlarged by the Austin Organ Co. of Hartford, Conn. and today is conceded to be the peer of, if not superior to, any pipe organ in existence.  Regular services are held on Sunday at 2 P.M.  Visitors are always welcome.

Post marked Salt Lake City, Utah.  Apr 26, 1937.  Addressed to Miss Jmae Weaver, 13975 Steel A., Detroit, Mich.

4/26/37   Dear Jim [Jmae Weaver], Hope you are all well.  We are on way home.  Hope to be there Sat or Sunday.  Dad [Lee G. Weaver]”

The West trip for Lee and Florence was coming to an end and Grandpa was letting Leila and Jmae know when they needed to make everything ship-shape around the house.   Of course, by reputation, Effie Lee Weaver, Lee’s mother, would have made sure of that since she was staying with her granddaughters during their parents’ trip.

Ven-effer I visit Farmington -1915

Farmington1915

Ven-effer I visit Farmington I haf a most refreshing time already.    Made in the U.S.A.

Post marked Farmington, Mich.  Jan 15, 1915.  Addressed to Mrs. Effie Weaver, 92 Tireman Ave, Detroit, Mich.

“Do you know that Redford Stars [Redford Chapter of the Eastern Stars] are to help F. Stars do it to 5 victims Jan 22.  Better come in the morning and stay all night – see us in style.  Get off at Otis then back to the first st on your right and first house on st.  See it.  Mary.”

These Eastern Star women were very secretive.  Not sure what this project was with Farmington?   From family records, most of the family through Effie’s generation belonged to the Masons or the Stars in Redford.
