Smile d— you, smile!  copyright 1910, By Taylor Art Co.   Series 707.

Post mark is unreadable other than 1910 Mich.   Addressed to Lee Weaver, City of Cleveland, C/O D & C Line (then the City of Cleveland, C/O D & C Line were crossed out and Tireman Ave, Detroit, Mich. was written in.

“You were making a howl a while ago because I did not answer your letter.  This makes the 2nd time I have written without and answer. Over (the rest is continued around the outside border of the card) so keep you mouth shut about my writing after this.  Let me hear from you soon CapN.”

Have no idea who the author was.  Obviously written to my Grandfather when he was working on the City of Cleveland but after he was done for the season since it was then sent on to his house on Tireman.

A Village Stream – 1910

VillageStream1910

A Village Stream  – 3413.

Another post card that appears never to have been sent by Grandpa [Lee G Weaver], but addressed to Miss Pearl Churches, Redford, Mich. R F D #4.

“May 31, 1910.  Say Pearl, I guess you better ask your mother [Ora Lee Churches] to go to the Conservatory of Music Thursday night.  I am about all in today.  Went on the Parade yesterday and guess I got more cold.  I am almost in bed.  So, guess you better get Mother to go with you.  Please give my Regrets to Estelle [Wright, another cousin] & West Lake. E.  LW”

Not sure if Grandpa made it to this recital with his cousin, Pearl or not.   Or, if she got the word he was too sick to come.

Shoot the Chutes and Whirl Wind at Olentangy Park, Columbus, Ohio – Competition Proof Weixelbaum, Lima, Ohio

Post Marked San Toy, Ohio, May 30, 1910.  Addressed to Mrs Effie [Lee] Weaver, 94 Tireman Ave., Detroit, Mich.

“Monday morning.  Dear Aunt and All,  Got home Sunday.  Went out to see Aunt Rose [Roseanah Weaver Fisher] Sat.  She is not feeling very well.  I was tired when I reached Columbus and feel tired this morning hope all are well as all the rest of the folks are well here did your sisters come Sat would I liked to met them but wanted to get home to rest hope to hear from you soon.   Your niece Ellora [Weaver]”

No, I did not skip any of cousin Ellora’s punctuation.   This card was even written in ink so it is just not hard to see because it was written in pencil as so many of the cards.   It appears Ellora has a stream of consciousness that just flows.

Post marked Redford, Mich.  May 26, 1910.  Addressed to Mrs. Lemuel Weaver [Effie Lee Weaver] 94 Tyreman Ave., Detroit, Mich.

“Dear Effie,  It will be not possible to come in today for Pearl [Churches] takes her music lesson, but if nothing happens I will come Saturday.  Ora [Lee Churches]”

Not sure how fast Aunt Ora expected this post card to make it to great Grandma.  But, sending it to say she would not be coming TODAY was putting a lot of faith in a 1¢ post card.

Post marked Corning, Ohio, May 23, 1910.  Addressed to Miss Ellora Weaver, 94 Tireman Ave., Detroit, Mich.

“Dear Sister, This is the way you will put on the day when you get home.  Grandma [unknown to whom she is referring.  Grandma Weaver died in 1864, Grandma Knaisch in the same time frame.   She may have beeen referring to Ellora’s mother, Anna Knaisch Weaver] said if you did not have money to come home with to write as soon as you got this.  Everybody is well but Elmer [Elmer Joseph Goodlif Weaver, Ellora;s brother] he has a bad cold.   About all is to hope to hear from you soon, Good by.  From your loveing sister, Mrs. C. M. Weaver [C.  M. Weaver was Casper Merriam Weaver, Ellora’s brother, the writer was Casper’s wife, Anna Irene Potts Weaver]”

Interesting exchange between my grandfather’s cousin and her sister-in-law.   Apparently, mail was sent to my great grandparents’ home at that time.   Adding more to the theory that Ellora was in Mount Clemens for the mineral baths.

Post Marked, Mount Clemens, Mich. May 23, 1910.   Addressed to Mrs. Lemuel Weaver [Effie Lee Weaver], 94 Tireman Ave. Detroit, Mich.

“Monday May 23rd.   Dear Aunt, Just received your letter this minute and will answer it by card.  I can come in on that car.  Now you meet me please.  Hope you get this card.  Ellora [Ellora Weaver, daughter of Charles Louis and Anna Knaish Weaver, Charles was the brother of Lemuel Weaver].    I am no worse but better than I was [written along the edges of the message area of the card]”

Apparently, Ellora brought a supply of post cards with her from Ohio.   Possibly, Ellora was in Mount Clemens for health reasons.  The mineral baths were quite famous.

The street car was the primary transportation around southeast Michigan in the early 20th century.

The Navy – “Close Quarters” 1910

The Navy — “Close Quarters”  169

Post marked Eloise, Mich.  Apr 22, 1910.   Addressed to Mr. Lee Weaver, D & C Nav Co., Steamer Eastern States, Detroit, Mich.

“Received you letter will ans soon.   Like it fine at present.  Get your bon bons for you will need them.  B.D.  [B. Denning] Eloise C. H. [Eloise Country Home, Wayne, MI]”

The Eloise Country Home was a combination poor house and asylum that was pretty much used for any out of control relatives in the early 20th century.  It is interesting that Grandpa Lee had a friend living there since one of the family stories is that his parents, Lemuel and Effie Lee Weaver, met and married in an insane asylum — they were attendants in the same facility in Nebraska.

Added point of interest, was Grandpa double timing Grandma?   Stay tuned…..
